Pease pudding isn’t considered a traditional dish, but it can be used as a substitute for lentils and beans in dishes where those ingredients normally are used. You may be surprised at how delicious pea pudding tastes if you’ve never had it before. 

Pea pudding makes a great side dish for fish, chicken, pork, beef, lamb, and veal. It’s also yummy and served alongside roasted root vegetables and steamed broccoli. You can serve it warm, chilled, or freeze it for later use. There isn’t anything better than having a bowl of warm pea pudding right after coming back from work.

Peace & rice is traditionally eaten with pork. However, if you’re not eating meat, you can still enjoy this traditional dish without any guilt. What Is Pease Pudding?

Pease pudding is a classic English dish that originated in the northeast part of England. It consists of dried split peas that are boiled until tender, then mixed with pieces of bacon and served either warm or cold. It’s a delicious comfort food that’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The name comes from the word “peas”, which refers to the main ingredient – dried green peas. However, the dish doesn’t contain any peas at all. Instead, it contains dried split peas, which are cooked like regular peas.

But you’ll find many variations across the region. You might even see people eating it with bread or toast, just like you’d eat a traditional smoother pudding pea and ham soup.

Eat With Bread

The pease pudding was used in the creation of a kind of butty. A butty is a sandwich made out of a piece of bread, usually white, filled with meat and cheese. But it doesn’t end there. You could make a whole meal out of a butty. You just need to add some vegetables and salad. The pease pudding is served cold and is traditionally eaten with a spoon. It is a traditional English dish and is often served during harvest festivals. It is made up of peas, milk, butter, salt, and pepper.

Easy Pease Pudding Recipe

Peas are one of my favorite vegetables. They’re versatile, nutritious, inexpensive, and easy to grow yourself. I love making this recipe because it’s quick and easy to make. You don’t even need a special pan; just use whatever pot you have on hand.

This is a traditional English dish made with mashed potatoes, milk, breadcrumb, egg yolks, and butter. It’s usually served cold, but it can also be warm or hot.

Ingredients

Split Peas

1 cup dried split peas

2 cups water

Onion

½ onion, chopped

Malt Vinegar

¼ cup malt vinegar

Butter

3 tablespoons butter

Salt & Pepper

Sea Salt & Ground White Pepper

Carrot

1 carrot, peeled & diced

Water

4 cups fresh water

Directions

Soak the split peas overnight in 2 cups of water. Drain and rinse well. Add the rinsed split peas to a large pot along with the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer covered for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and simmer uncovered for another 15 minutes. Serve hot.

Steps To Make It

The best way to make it is to start with a good base recipe. This one uses a combination of ingredients I’ve used many times before – parsnips, leeks, potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, a clove of garlic, thyme, rosemary, bay leaves, salt, pepper, olive oil, walnut of butter, milk, cream, stock, flour, eggs, breadcrumbs, etc. You’ll find yourself making variations on this basic formula over and over again.

This particular version is “pease pudding sandwiches.” Make it every Christmas Eve, and kids will love it. 

Be Careful When Mixing Hot Ingredients.

Blenders are great tools for making smoothies, soups, sauces, dips, dressings, and even desserts. But there are some things you should know about blending hot ingredients.

Steam builds up inside blenders during use, especially when mixing hot liquids like coffee, tea, broth, tomato sauce, etc. If left unchecked, it could cause damage to the motor and seals. To avoid overheating, cover the lid with a kitchen cloth or paper towel. This will prevent steam from entering the vent holes and escaping into the surrounding area.

When blending hot ingredients, make sure to stir frequently to ensure that no lumps form. Also, do not overfill the container; otherwise, the contents could spill out while blending. Finally, blend hot ingredients slowly and carefully.

Peas are one of my favorite vegetables to cook because they don’t take long to prepare and you can make many different dishes with them. They’re versatile and easy to find in most grocery stores. I like to use frozen peas because it makes cooking them much easier.

Here are some tips to help you enjoy cooking peas.

1. Cook them until tender, but still keep them firm enough to hold together

2. You want to cook them until they are soft enough to mash easily, but not mushy. If you overcook them, they’ll turn out watery.

3. When you buy them, look for bright green pods without any brown spots. Avoid those that are limp or wrinkled.

4. Don’t wash them unless you plan to eat them immediately. Rinse them under cold water and pat dry.

5. Sautéing them is another great way to add flavor. Just heat oil over medium-high heat in a skillet and sauté the peas for about 5 minutes.

6. Add salt and pepper to taste.

How To Store Pease Pudding

Pease pudding is one of those dishes that you either love or hate. If you like it, you’ll probably make it again and again. But if you don’t care much for it, you might just skip it altogether. Either way, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t know how to store pease pottage pudding properly. 

That said, you should never store peas pudding in plastic containers. Instead, you should consider using glass jars. Glass lets the steam escape during cooking, allowing the flavors to infuse throughout the dish without becoming stale.

Of course, storing peas pudding hot in glass jars isn’t enough. You still have to make sure the jars are sealed tightly once you open them. Once opened, you don’t want any moisture to leak out.

To seal the jar, simply place a piece of parchment paper inside the lid. Then slide the lid back onto the jar. Next, press down firmly on the rim until it makes a tight seal. Finally, remove the parchment paper.
